"6 Steps to a Backyard Garden"
Rain Gardens are a delightful solution to standing water problems in your yard and excessive runoff to the storm drain. A rain garden is typically a shallow depression that is planted with deep-rooted native plants and grasses, the garden holds the water for a short time allowing it to be absorbed into the soil. Plants are selected based on their ability to withstand the extremes of moisture and concentrations of nutrients. And there is no reason your rain garden cannot do double duty as a pollinator friendly habitat. Learn 6 easy steps to building your own rain garden.

Saturday, June 3

Equestrian Parking Lot: West Side of Stone Mountain State Park

Hike length: 2 miles
Hike starting point: the equestrian parking lot on the west side of Stone Mountain Park

Directions:
The "horse trail moonshine still hikes" will meet at the equestrian parking area on the west side of Stone Mountain State Park. If you enter the park from the east on John P. Frank Parkway drive all the way though the park to where the road turns to gravel. After the pavement ends, the equestrian parking area will be approximately 1/2 mile on your left.

If you enter the park from Longbottom Road from the west, take Stone Mountain Road for approximately 1/4 mile to the equestrian parking area on your right.

This is not a horse ride. The hike begins on the horse trail and then goes into the woods, "off trail" to still locations. We will also visit the remains of the "two chimney" McGrady homesite.
