Annual Yadkin River Run at the Jonesville Greenway Trailhead.

This race is an out and back on the beautiful Jonesville Greenway Trail which meanders alongside the Yadkin River. The trail offers moderate terrain topped with screenings as well as natural surfaces. Take in the beautiful scenery as the trail passes along area campgrounds, wildlife, and even an iconic covered bridge, all of which make this not just another race, but an experience you won’t soon forget through the heart of the Yadkin Valley.

Enjoy a hike on the E&A Rail Trail and learn some interesting history along the Elkin Creek.

This is a Moderate/Strenuous 2-mile hike. Explore some of the former liquor stills on this hike along Garden Creek at Stone Mountain State Park. Much of this hike will be offtrail. Dress accordingly. Meet at the Garden Creek Baptist Church INSIDE Stone Mountain Park on the main road through the park.

Sign up for the Forest Bathing Guided Hike - NC's first "Forest Bathing" Trail, at Grassy Creek Vineyard & Winery today! Forest bathing involves immersing oneself in nature to improve mental, physical, and emotional well-being- while unplugged from electronics. In addition, you will get a first glance at the NEW Mural being painted on the Dam. This is an easy 1.5 mile hike. We will meet behind Grassy Creek Vineyard Tasting Room.

Bring your own horse for an out-and-back ride along Sections 10 - 13 of the Sauratown Trail, which is barefoot horse friendly. The distance will be 7 to 10 miles, depending on how far everyone wants to go. We will ride past a cow field, through a few creek crossings, and up/down a small portion of Sauratown Mountain itself. Pack in your own lunch, and we can stop at a picnic spot and have lunch during the ride!
Arrive at 9 AM, ride out at 10 AM.

Hike along with Laura Gaylord, Elkin's Main Street Manager, as she shares numerous points of interest, hidden treasures, fun facts, and the history of Elkin's downtown and its buildings, which are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Plan for approximately 2 hours of exploring; comfortable walking shoes recommended. Rain or shine. This is an easy 1-2 mile hike. This event is offered on Friday and Saturday.

Tour de Trail is a 40 Mile group bicycle road ride from Elkin High School to Stone Mountain State park. Following some of the MST trail back to Elkin, the tour includes a stop at Carter Falls. Gathering at starting point (Elkin High School Parking Lot) from 8:00 AM -8:55 AM, departs at 9:00 AM. Free event, donations support the Elkin Valley Trails Association.

Enjoy a kayak excursion on a calm section of the Yadkin River. The trip length is 2.8 m on the river and perfect for novices and experienced kayakers who want to enjoy a paddle trip but also have time for various events for NC Trail Days-- such as hiking, biking, vineyards, breweries or music events and river fun on the same day. Included when renting a kayak: Kayaks, paddles, life vests, the shuttle trip upstream are included in your rental fee, as well as the use of our dock on the river, so you can easily get out of your kayak when arriving back at RFRR. What to know: (1) water shoes or sandals are needed (flip flops tend to get lost) (2) applying sunscreen prior to departure is always a good idea. (3) Please arrive 15 minutes early for check-in & to be fitted for equipment. (4) weight limit is up to 300 lbs. (5) if you are bringing your own kayak, don't forget your life vest and paddle. Families with kids Pre-K - 6th Grade - Join us at the Kids Neighborhood for a bunch of kid and family-friendly activities related to trails, including a downtown Elkin scavenger hunt and hands-on crafting. The tent is brought to you by the students and educators at Appalachian State University Academy at Elkin and RootEd NC. Students will also be leading guided hikes of a learning trail they are building with the Elkin Valley Trails Association. The learning trail connects their school to downtown Elkin, the Elkin Public Library, and the MST.

Hike starting point: the equestrian parking lot on the west side of Stone Mountain Park

Directions:
The "horse trail moonshine still hikes" will meet at the equestrian parking area on the west side of Stone Mountain State Park. If you enter the park from the east on John P. Frank Parkway drive all the way though the park to where the road turns to gravel. After the pavement ends, the equestrian parking area will be approximately 1/2 mile on your left.

If you enter the park from Longbottom Road from the west, take Stone Mountain Road for approximately 1/4 mile to the equestrian parking area on your right.

This is not a horse ride. The hike begins on the horse trail and then goes into the woods, "off trail" to still locations. We will also visit the remains of the "two chimney" McGrady homesite.

Jay Korreck, Owner and Coach of Constructive Learning Design, partners with Schools and Teachers across the Carolina's to bring experimental and project-based learning to our communities. Through RootEd, educators design and deliver student learning experiences that challenge students to solve local problems creatively and collaboratively, while also learning their core subjects. Jay will be sharing his most recent projects through videos and lectures. Jay has been very involved here with the App State Academy in Elkin and our EVTA Trail projects. Jay is also leading our 'Kids Neighborhood" NC Trails Event on Main Street on Saturday from 10:00 am-4:00 pm. Time allowed for Q & A.

Elkin Valley Trails Association Leader - Jason Taylor and his team will show their new EVTA Video and lead a discussion on the past year's progress on the Trails in Elkin and surrounding areas.

Yadkin Valley Chapter of the NC Society Sons of the American Revolution are conducting a very special grave marking ceremony with a Patriot Grave Marking for Patriot William Harris. Parking is located at 822 Preacher Field Rd. Go past the home, by grapevines and the barn. There will be a flag at the entrance to parking.

Experience the work of John Litschke, local videographer and producer, who documented much of Elkin, North Carolina and the surrounding area through the lens of a video camera from 1998 until his passing in 2022. This Oklahoma native made his home just outside of Elkin where he loved to tell the tales of music, history, people,
and places that make this foothills community so special.

Local cover band “Chasin’ County Lines” will start the evening at 4:00 pm sharing their passion for music as they extend their “jam sessions” to the stage for your enjoyment.

At 6:00 pm The Konnection Band has been tabbed as one of the East Coast’s premiere party bands, specializing in a variety of music including Top 40, Rock, Country, R&B, Beach and Oldies.
The Konnection will bring the party to the river with lights & dancing.
